Ramadan Moonsighting Dinner for Youth

Ramadan Moonsighting Dinner for Youth

Inviting our Muslim youth to be part of a beautiful sunnah and join us in sighting the new moon for Ramadan 2019 / 1440H

Date: Monday 6 May 2019

Time: 4pm-9pm

Venue: Christchurch Gondola

Ages: 13-30 years old

With the support of Auckland charity Variety NZ, Nawawi Center is hosting an unforgettable Moonsighting event for our Muslim youth this year!

We are treating our youth to a special moonsighting event atop the port hills at the Christchurch Gondola – prime 360° viewing for the new moon of Ramadan!

Moonsighting is a big part of Islam as we follow the lunar calendar. The Prophet s.a.w. has encouraged us to sight the moon by saying: “Fast when you see the New Moon. Celebrate Eid when you see it again.”

REGISTER BELOW (limited places)

We have invited a special guest from Wellington, Jasim Adam, a local expert on moonsighting and member of the NZ Hilal Committee, to talk to our youth about the importance of sighting the moon.

Join us as we scan the horizon for the new lunar moon at sunset, and enjoy a delicious catered dinner afterwards. If the moon is sighted, we will also have the chance to pray our first Tarawih of the month together as well.

A 50-person bus will leave from An-Nur Masjid at 4pm. Places are limited, so please indicate on the registration form if you need transport!

For those not taking the bus, please arrive at the Gondola at 4pm.
