Sheikh Ra’fat’s Christchurch Tour 2016

Assalamualaikum everyone,

We’re proud to organise a tour for our dear friend and teacher from Auckland’s Al-Hikmah Trust, Sheikh Ra’fat Najm!

Sheikh Rrafat1a’fat Najm is a Muslim Scholar who studied Islamic Studies at Al Azhar University, and has a BA in Law and Islamic Law (Cairo-Egypt). He came to New Zealand in 1997 and worked as an Imam of Christchurch Mosque, before moving to Auckland and making huge efforts with various roles and positions in the community. A prime example is the successful New Muslim Project that primarily focuses on providing support for reverts and anyone who wants to know more about Islam. He is also heavily involved with Muslim Youth and has a reputation for leading incredibly uplifting youth camps for them.

Sh. Ra’fat will be down here in Christchurch from the 25-27th Nov 2016. Below are the tentative schedule for Sh. Ra’fat’s Christchurch tour:

Friday, 25th November 2016

Friday Khutbah: “Why we are losing”

Time: 1:30 – 2:30pm
Venue: Masjid An- Nur, 101 Deans Ave, Riccarton.

In this Khutbah, Sheikh Ra’fat will present a summary of his recent trip to Jerusalem and share his insights on the state of our Ummah. We anticipate this special session to be an hour long. Sh. Ra’fat will be available after the special khutbah for any Q&A and catching up session.

Round table with Sh. Ra’fat: “Women of the Qur’an”

Time: 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Venue: Learning Centre 3, Upper Riccarton library. 71 Main South Road, Sockburn.

In this women-only session, Sheikh Ra’fat will introduce the iconic women of the Quran and their inspirational stories. Learn how these blessed women earned their status in Islam and how we can take lessons from the events in their lives.

Saturday, 26th November 2016

Active Muslim Explorers: “Peer Pressure and Handling Stress”

Time: 1:00 -3:00 pm
Venue: Masjid An- Nur, 101 Deans Ave, Riccarton.

The Active Muslim Explorers (AME) is Nawawi Center’s pilot programme for young boys aged 11-15 years old. Sheikh Ra’fat will use his great rapport with youth to engage, connect and guide these young men through a critical period in their lives.

This program is restricted to boys registered to the program however we will make an exception to include non-members.  Contact us to register your interest before 5pm Tuesday, 22nd Nov 2016. 

Muslim Youth Canterbury (MYC) Boys Workshop

Time: 4:00 -10:00 pm
Venue: Living Springs Camp and Conference Centre. 218 Bamfords Road Allandale RD1 Lyttelton 8971

The workshop will include a presentation on Islam’s important relationship with Martial Arts shared by Sifu Zayid followed by a talk by Sh. Ra’fat on sensitive issues faced by young men.

The boys camp is an MYC initiative and is open for young men across New Zealand aged 14-25 years old. Registration is still open; click here to register for the camp. Muslim Parenting in the Modern Day

Time: 11:00am – 3:00pm

Venue: DAo1, College of Education, University of Canterbury, Dovedale Avenue, Ilam.

Plenty of carparks available onsite and offsite. 

Canterbury Muslim Community Trust (CMCT) and Nawawi Center are proud to host a community potluck gathering aimed at Muslim families in Christchurch. This is a FREE event and will be in a format of potluck (make sure you bring a plate!) followed by a panel discussion by two of our esteemed speakers:

  • Dr. Maysoon Salama: “Under 5: The Critical Age”
  • Sh. Rafat Najm: “Being a Muslim Parent”
