Canterbury Eid Festival returns in 2016

Assalamualaikum everyone and hello,

New Zealand will celebrate the second Eid (ul Adha) tomorrow Tues, 13th Sept 2016. Firstly, I wish you and your family a happy and blessed Eid. Secondly, we are proud to inform that the Canterbury Eid Festival is back again this year! The same team that brought Canterbury’s first ever Eid Festival is about to bring you yet another exciting and colourful event, this weekend Sept 18th 2016.

Encouraged by last year’s success, the team have been working almost non-stop and we’re very excited to bring this event to you. There will be a few new addition to the Eid event this year but we have also kept some of the crowd’s favourites from last year which include:

1. DeenQuest

12094852_10153655737908739_7217841842162226660_oYes, the DeenQuest (DQ) is back at your request! What’s DQ, you ask? Well if you like brain teasers, physical challenges and competing against other teams then this is definitely for you. DQ is a hands-on game where teams race against each other to gather the most DeenPoints. The first team to get to 34 DeenPoints wins!

Just like last year, we have DQ-Kidz, and DQ-Adults. Each session runs for approximately an hour. DQ-Kidz is scheduled to run at 11:30am and DQ-Adults at 2:30pm.

We have amazing prices which awaits winners from each category which includes vouchers to food joints all over Christchurch. Registration opens on event day so get in quick!

2. The Gladiator

We’re expecting to see more showdown this year so there is still time to work on your stance and practice being on wobbly surface as it won’t take much to get knocked down!

Last year, as part of the DQ, I got called in for a match…hopefully there won’t be any repeat performance of me trying to be Xena because that was slightly embarrassing (but I’m ready guys just in case)…

3. International cuisine (at affordable prices!)

12068509_10153655736293739_4301926654621419922_oAnd of course, I saved the best for last. The food. The real reason why we come to all these festivals in Christchurch (let’s not kid ourselves here). There will be PLENTY of mouth-watering delicacies from all over the Muslim world. Forget your kebabs and souvlaki’s and get ready to sample authentic Malay, Jordanian, Indian, Iraqi, Egyptian, and many many more!

By the way, yes, Nora’s Kitchen will be there. You guys better get there early before I buy all the kuih from her stall…

So block out your calendar, reserve Sunday 18th for us and hopefully we will see you there! Better yet, click “GOING” on our Canterbury Eid Festival Facebook event for more details. Any updates on the event will be posted on our event page so click on “Going” to see the latest update. If you haven’t access to Facebook, you can find out the details on EventFinda website.

We’re open rain or shine so come out and spend the day with us! There will be more teasers coming so watch this space….

Eid Mubarak everyone. 🙂

In Peace
